Florence Welby

Florence Welby

Florence Welby was born in the beautiful Sussex countryside, where she still lives. She studied at Falmouth and then at Leeds, Lille and Grenada.

Florence's style is both distinctive and quirky. She prefers to use more traditional illustrative techniques such as pen and ink, watercolour, drypoint and etching. The sense of heritage conveyed by her illustrations is derived not only from her techniques and tools, but also the subjects that she chooses to depict. Florence's artwork tends to be of odd, forgotten and otherwise useless objects, which she hopes are given a new lease of life in her drawings.

Florence has provided images for poster designs. Following a course in book-binding Florence has illustrated and bound some of her own stories.

Florence is heavily inspired by the work of Michael Gondry, Sylvain Chomet, Joann Sfar, Odilon Redon, Paul Klee and intricate stencils, pop-up books and nature.

The artist will be making a new work specifically for the Party Show.
