A. Richard Allen

A. Richard Allen is a celebrated illustrator who honed his skills at Central Saint Martins. Since becoming a freelance illustrator in 2001, Richard has done work for numerous advertising, editorial and design clients. Indeed, his recognisable style and often witty illustrations can be spotted in The Guardian, The Times, The Wall Street Journal and the New Yorker amongst many other household names.

Of his future plans, Richard says, "Currently I am discreetly but determinedly slipping away from the world of illustration - neglecting a picture book I've agreed to do - and returning to my first love of painting. I intend to show this work at some point next year."

The Richard Allen piece that will be exhibited at The Party Show is one of a series of seven interior plates and a cover design commissioned by the Folio Society last year: "The process was a reasonably simple one that involved reading the book, selecting strong visual images (the book, thankfully, has numerous slapstick set-pieces and a cast of grotesqes), producing thumbnails and once these were approved, drawing and digitally colouring the images".
